REALITY OF LIFE AS A MILITARY FAMILY
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” – John 13:15. Some parents are packing tonight. Not for vacation. Not for a work trip. But because orders came. Because their name was called. Because another country is about to become their address temporarily. While the headlines scroll and the debates get louder, there are moms braiding hair a little slower. There are dads lingering a little longer at bedtime. There are parents memorizing the sound of their child’s laugh before they board a plane. Behind every “deployment” announcement is a child who doesn’t fully understand distance. Behind every uniform is a mom who still knows exactly how her baby takes their milk and a dad who still checks the weather back home to make sure the kids have coats. We will see the news. We see the tension rising across the world, but we don’t always see the little boy sleeping with his parents’ T shirt. The little girl counting down days on a paper chain. The spouse holding everything together while trying not to fall apart. They serve our country, but they are also serving as moms and dads from thousands of miles away. No parent leaves without taking a piece of their family with them. While we tuck our children in their own beds, someone else is kissing their children goodbye. They understand what it means to serve. It means saying goodbye to your family while everyone else is saying goodnight. It means empty chairs on birthdays and holidays. It means standing in places most of us will never see so the rest of us can sleep safely at night. They raise their right hand knowing the risks, knowing the mission comes first, and knowing someone has to step forward when others hesitate. Lately we’ve been reminded that their sacrifice is real. Behind every uniform is someone’s child. Someone’s spouse. Someone’s parent. Someone’s entire world. They believe in something bigger than themselves. So to every man and woman who has ever worn the uniform, thank you for the sacrifices we see and the sacrifices we don’t. For carrying a weight most of us will never fully understand.
THE IMPORTANCE OF SHARING THE GOSPEL WITH OUR TROOPS
“Therefore, everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash.” – Matthew 7:24-27. Sharing the gospel with military personnel is essential for providing spiritual, emotional, and mental stability, offering hope and comfort in the face of combat stress, trauma, and potential loss.
HOW YOU CAN HELP
In the book of Isaiah, we read Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send? And who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I. Send me!” – Isaiah 6:8. We are inviting you to be a part of this vital ministry. Will you obey the Lord as He calls you to reach out to the lost? Will you say “Here I am Lord, send me” or will you wait for someone else to step up to the plate? There are many ways to get involved. We would love to see churches participate by partnering with us financially as well as coming to set up a small table and invite our troops to your church. You can do this by getting your church or small group to come and set up a table to invite people to church, have a face painting table or even encourage your church to donate two treasure bags a month.
